Hey everyone!
I had a 1999 model cosmic about a year ago and it was great, but not so portable even with a traveller bag because its battery life was not so good and it was huge with the battery brick (weighed more than my laptop). I recently got a beautiful single 9V ad8620 h65 meta42 from JMT and I can't beleive how good it is! I primarily use ety4s and ksc35s and in the past I've used RA1, cosmic, supreme, Total Airhead, Porta Corda I, CHA47 and I thought that amps were cool but not a necessity. I felt that way regardless of which headphone I used (which includes HD600, CD3000, etc.). A little more sharpness, detail, and impact but other than with the HD600 and Ety4s, not necessary.
This awesome meta42 changes all that. It absolutely stomps on the unamped sound of these headphones. Even more, I feel like they totally outclass the old cosmic I had. There is no feeling of stuffiness in the sound, which I felt the cosmic had at higher levels. It may be missing crossfeed, but no doubt it is far more portable than the cosmic, and has MUCH better sound/build quality than the Total Airhead (which costs even more!).
I'm not sure if its because headroom sponsors this site or what, but I have heard very few comments comparing the cosmic to the portable meta42, and I was wondering if anyone else felt the same way. I'm not sure about the latest cosmic reference model and maybe its better overall with most headphones, but I am 100% sure that this meta42 stomps over my old 1999 cosmic with the Etys.... it is magical.
Has anyone compared them both? Am I going nuts?

The meta42 must have brainwashed you into thinking that. There's just something not quite right about this: meta42 > COSMIC. Ummmm...

Maybe that's it, but this isn't a Maxed out meta42 by any means, just the recommended max single 9V meta42 for a H-65 case.
Anyone own both (cosmic, single 9V meta42)?
