For users of the Corda Aria connected to a PC via USB: I notice that when I power down the Aria, then power it back on it ends up halving (exactly) the master volume in Windows XP Pro (from volume set to full). It's somewhat obnoxious to have to change it every time I turn on the Aria. Anyone else notice this?

Nothing wrong here, Windows(r) set volume to half when you connect a sound device.

May be a mod inside the Aria, using volume control on PCM2704 (HID1/MC) can set the volume to full.

Well I don't know whether it's due to any special settings that I've put on but the windows volume of my Aria hardly ever alters anymore (it does on very very random occasions - like maybe once in the past 3 months and I turn it off/on about 3-4 times a day)

I turned on the Aria then went into control panel and set the defaults for everything back to my main sound card. In foobar2000 I have it set to play through the Aria while everything else just plays through my default. In this way I can listen to my music when I want while everything else outputs through my sound card. Of course it might not be this that means that the DAC volume is always set at full but that's how my system works.

Yeah only on very few occasions will windows set the volume back to half for me. I havent done anything special to my computer either. Windows just seems to remember the device settings even after being unplugged for a while. I turn my Aria on and off about twice a day.

I thought with USB devices the 1/2 setting was unity digital gain - any more or less and you're changing the digital stream. Wavelength Audio (a higher end USB DAC company) recommends setting both WAV and Master volumes to 1/2.
If you have working ASIO or Kernel Streaming, this may not apply.

If you find the threads made by Jan then you'll see his full on technical reasoning behind why software volume should be maxed out.

Basically if you lower the volume your losing some of the audio signal going to the Aria.... so you want the best sound, full software volume and then control the actual hearing volume from the Aria itself is basically the answer
