Hey guys,

I have helplessly fallen in love with the Shanling CD players. They're so cool-looking!!

I'd jump right on these suckers and buy one, but I am a poor college student. What to do?

I am looking for a 500 dollar or under player that has a method of playing disks like the Shanling does, or at least, not like how most players do, with the opening and closing drive bay on the unit.

Sound quality, obviously, is also of importance too. If anybody can solve this issue I will be greatly appreciative! THANKS!!

Andrew

My Rocktron Jambox rules. It's the coolest little boombox ever - top loading CD, front loading Cassette, got yer analog radio, and you can plug in a guitar in the front 1/4 analog input - has a separate volume and tone for cd and tape and radio and you can play, or "jam" over it with your guitar - the guitar input has a volume control and a ROCK OUT distortion button, whoohoo! Fun stuff!

Plus, one speaker grill has "JAM" screened on it - and the other has "BOX"

"DUDE!"

"SWEET!"

The headphone out is nice too, when you want to jam away when the wife is sleepin...

For loading mechanisms I really like the expensive Naim players. You pay a lot of bucks for a high-end cdp and still have to pull out the cd try yourself

For a toploading mechanism, I think the Rega 2000 is a great player for the 600$ it usually goes for on audiogon. It may not have the definition of a more high-end player but every time I visit a friend of mine who owns the Rega 2k, it is a real joy to listen to it.

I really like the look of those Denon mini-system CD players. Very cool, imo.

Are those CD trays motorized?

I'm not too keen on those Shandling players myself, in fact other than Linn Sondek CD12 I havn't seen much out there that really wows me. Now turntables, thats a different story.

I seem to have a particular fetish for the Denon DP62L.

It's still to this day the most awesome looking audio component I've ever seen.
