Hello all

I have lately been getting the bug of trying another pair of headphones.
From what I have heard about the HD650's, they might have been cured of the HD600 defects, as I like to call them. I have heard them being described as fluid which I like in my music.

Those of you who have heard both of them, can you tell me why or why not should I sell the DT531 and goto the 650

cheers

650's are a different beast. Very smooth, certainly not as upfront as the 531, bassy sound, realistic sounding, pretty musical, but not my cup of tea. They are just too laid back for me. However if this is more to your liking then it will be a good upgrade. Also the 650 will require a much higher spec system before they pull away from the Beyers IMHO.

Everything what pbirkett said, but such statements need to be taken in context of what music you listen to. If it's trance and more active music, you'll want the dt531's. If it's more ambient, jazz, or classical, you'll defintely want the 650's.

I have the Senn 600s and dt531. I also want to get the Senn 650's because of the bliss I heard in my brief two hours with them... but I also have the dt531 and wouldn't think of selling them. I think they can live together because of how differently they do things.

The dt531s are more in-your-face, have more impact. But the Senns are more refined, so I think that they could live nicely together.

I don't think muddy is the right word, unless you got a defective pair. I associate muddiness with a softening of detail and a lack of focus. Detail and focus are much better on the 650s than the 600s. "Darker" would be a more appropriate adjective. The 650s are darker, but still very neutral.

Now if someone likes the brightness of any of the Grados + bow pads, they may have a problem adapting to the relative darkness of the 650s.

Keep the DT531's... save some money... and get both

if you end up wanting to sell them after you get the 650's, then sell it

atleast then you won't regret the switch if you end up liking the DT531 more, the whole selling to buy something else that you are unsure of sorta relates to patience level...

might as well just wait a few more weeks for the full money to come in then regretting selling them

just a thought...

The HD580/600/650 are not neutral. HD650 worse than the rest of the line.

out of curiosity... if you believe this, then why do you still own your HD600... if I was as displeased with the sennheiser line as you seem to be I would have moved on by now...

sounds like a plan... I thought about those quite a bit when I was in a hi-fi buying phase [spending all my money on mountain bike parts right now

I was in a hifi buying binge a couple of weeks ago, spent close to $2000 on headphone amps. Right now I am in the sober reflection stage. So I wont be purchasing the DT880 at least for a while.
