I've been trying to look for a new pair of IEMs lately and from what I've looked at so far the Q-Jays might be the best choice for me but I'd like to get some input. I had a love hate relationship with the Ety ER4. They were very detailed sounding and fairly neutral but the flanged tips were uncomfortable and the foamies couldn't give me a good seal most of the time.
I purchased a pair of V-moda Vibes and although they sounded pretty bad out of the box it improved after burn in. I wasn't happy with the level of isolation though, even with a good seal the train noise would drown out the music. The Ety's were much better if I remember right.
I ended up returning the Vibes and now I'm looking for another IEM. I've looked at some Shures but I don't think the Shure sound is right for me. From what I've read they tend to have more bass and that had me worried as the Ety's bass sounded fine to me (non tactile but accurate). Even the Stax I used to own sounded fine
The Q-Jays look like a good choice to me because:
1) Tiny! They don't stick out much compared to other IEMs and look like they'd be comfortable even using in bed
2) Good value. The accessories pack is pretty generous and it seems to be pretty cheap for a dual armature IEM.
3) Sonic signature. They don't seem to have as much bass as the Shure and aren't as detailed as the Ety's (which I felt could be fatiguing at times)
As far as the cons go I don't see the Q-Jays being discussed all that much which make me wonder if I'm missing some better options. I'm also worried about isolation since the tips look like the Vibes.
Edit: Figured I'd give a bit more info.
Current desktop rig: Zhaolu D2 -> M^3 (OPA 637) -> HD 600s
Portable -> Creative Zen 16 GB ->
I mostly listen to alternative, rock, and J-pop.
