I have a mint amp and have read that it can be improved by having it run off of two nine volt batts instead of one. I was wondering if any one had any input on this, and/ or tips on how to rig this up.

Also, would it be possible to just hook up an adapter direct to the battery connector on the amp and set it at 18 volts. If this is ok, would it be ok to run it at 12 volts(already have an adapter that goes only to 12vs). Thanks Toby

You can add a battery by connecting a positive terminal of one battery with the negative terminal of the other, and then take the unconnected terminals and connect that to your amp. That wires the batteries in series, giving you 18V.

Yes, you can do that with a wall wart, but you would have to modify the plug in order to do this, so it terminates with a 9V clip. Make sure you get the polarity right. A 12V one will work, but one with a higher voltage rating will be better. If you're using a cheapo wallwart though, it'll most likely be far noisier than using batteries.

THanks for the response. So if i were to get a second nine volt battery power hookup(for lack of a better term) , i would cut the wires running from the original battery hookup, and wire the neg from the new hookup to the pos of the original and the pos of the new to the neg of the original? Would that work?, and could i still run off of one batt with this setup if i wanted to?

Lastly, how do I know what the polarity should be if using an adapter? Will I damage the unit if i have it set to the wrong polarity? I imagine it would not work if it was set wrong, and i could quickly unplug and try the other setting, but am wondering if even a quick shot of the wrong polarity could damage the amp. Thanks again for your help. Toby

I hope this diagram clears up any confusion. The lines represent wires.. Anyway, if your MINT has a reverse-voltage protection diode, your amp will survive being connected to a reversed wall wart... however if there isn't one, then your amp components could get damaged. Do you have a multimeter (or a voltmeter of some sort?).

Fiddler, Thanks again for you response. I understand the battery setup you have displayed in your diagram. I guess im still a little unclear on the practical aplication of how to rig it all up. Would I buy a second nine volt batt hookup and wire its neg to the original nine volts hookup pos wire and the pos of the new hookup to the neg of the original? Sorry to keep bugging you, but want to make sure I dont screw this up. Thanks Toby

I'm going to send you a PM in a few minutes.

The MINT board is designed to be cut in half if you want to put dual 9vs in a mint tin.
