I'm about to purchase a used Ultrasone 780J from another member of head-fi, but I'm mostly going to be using them for portable, so I need them to be terminated with 1/8.

I've done some basic search on these... and I came up with such varying results in price that it's getting me confused.

There are some very simple / cheap adapters that cost no more than 10 dollars shipped, such as:
Switchcraft 374 Adapter, Female Mono 1/4" to Male Mono 3.5mm | Full Compass

There are also 165 dollar one. This is way out of my price range.

ALO Audio

Or I could even just use a grado adapter or something...

Would there be a substantial loss of quality in the sound if I use a much simpler 1/4 to 1/8 adapter compared to one that costs more? I'm even thinking about just sending it back to ALO audio to get them re-terminated, although I'm not sure yet how much that would cost.

Thanks in advance for the help.

What ever you do don't get one of the solid ones as that puts far too much stress on the female jack in the source/amp so get one with a bit of cable between the 2 jacks. I have previously used the grado adaptor and found it perfectly acceptable but yes the optimal is naturally to reterminate.
