Contributor Ad level confusion

At what level does each set of ads get removed?

Naively, I thought the first level would remove all/most of them. It only removes the thread level ones introduced today.

If I upgrade to level 2 will any more be removed?

omg - ppl are contributing to try and get rid of the ads, my theres a neat little ploy, i didnt know it had anything to do with it, but i guess it does.

as evil says, can someone clear this question up once and for all, admin?

I just got a PM from Jude (w00t, first admin PM...)

He didn't really explain it but I think the ad removal is just a bonus.
Nevermind, not a big deal anyway. Never bothered me before.
