WOW i've always wondered how many other people do this. I get way too lazy to take out my 2 week disposable contacts at night so i just leave them in for maybe 3-5 days and then take them out one night. Amazingly my friend asked me that jsut outta nowhere the other day and i'm like. DUDE yeah me too. So hmmm.... wonder how many other people have this problem and do u think this could ruin my eyes? I am personally very afraid but always just cant seem to remember.

i stumbled upon this while doing some research.....

Disposable Soft Contacts

1. If you sleep in your disposable lenses then all you need is saline solution, or a multi-purpose solution. Follow the instructions on when to discard your lenses, daily or weekly.
2. If you do not sleep in your disposables then soak in a multi-purpose solution overnight and throw away the lenses in 2 weeks unless instructed otherwise.

Does this mean you can wear disposables overnight?

Leaving your contacts in for longer than they are rated is always bad, there is no reason to leave your contacts in. I used to leave my contacts in for days @ a time, but once I took them out it was quite hard to see and my eyes felt extremely dry for a little while. You shuold be sleeping without a synthetic polymer blocking oxygen, and other cleansing fluids that naturally clean the eye during rest.

Has anyone tried those new night and day contacts (don't remember the manufacturer) that supposedly allow a lot more oxygen to pass through than regular contacts? And if so, any problems wearing them while you sleep?

I've been wearing extended wear contacts (one brand is night and day) for 3-4 years, and I love them. They're more comfortable than normal contacts, and I love being able to see when I wake up, and places like the shower where you can't wear glasses. There's no problem sleeping in them at all, I even swim in them (with goggles of course).

When I first had them my eyes were a little dry when I first woke up, but a bit of blinking fixes that, or eye drops.

I wear mine for 20-35 days, you can tell when they need to be change. You take them out at night and put the new one in in the morning. I'm very long sighted so I can't see the contacts to put them in, so I tend to change one one night and the other the next night - it's a very good solution for long sighted people

Try them - you'll not regret it. I'll never choose to wear glasses again!

The problem with sleeping with non-overnight contacts is lack of oxygen to the front of the eye. This part (cornea) does not have blood vessels, so it must be exposed to the air in order to get oxygen. If it is deprived of oxygen (wearing contacts overnight), blood vessels will grow into the cornea. This will make your eyes bloodshot, and mean you cannot wear contacts for several months. Worst case is you can't see ebcuase of the vessels blocking your vision. When you stop wearing contacts overnight, the blood vessels shrink but never really disappear. Overnight contacts solve this problem by allowing tons of oxygen to reach the eye . . . regular contacts can't do this. But even for overnights, infection is still possible.
In other words, don't sleep in your contacts
