Today I was at compusa with my mom and my best friend who was utterly dissapointed with his triports, went to return them, so I told him to look at the HD497. Then, another guy about my age, stopped to look at the triports in the Bose, since you can't try them out, my friend let him tryout the triports and a huge frown struck his face, he said they sound like crap, and he already had his $170 to spend, now he looked for others. So my friend paid for the HD497's and was really happy with his purchase, so he let the guy try them out since they both have the same taste in music(underground punk), he really liked them, so he ended up buying the 497's and saved himself a few bucks.

Anyhoo, this is just a story I wanted to share. If you have any comments please feel free to share them.

Spread the Good Word! And if they stick with Bose, shake the dust off your feet and move on!

My friend discovered he is an Audiophile, so am I but we need to start small.

He now owns HD497's, and Shure E2C's

I own PX200's and I will buy later on either Ety ER4's or Shure E4C's. If I buy one of these, I'll end up buying the other one later on, my parents like that I have a save hobby, but they know It's danger to my wallet.

"Sonically, musically, Bose's little headset rivals the performance of some very expensive electrostatic phones I've known…the result is endlessly listenable, indeed illuminating sound. In some very familiar orchestral recordings, I heard interior voices, even textural subtleties that I'd never noticed before."

give Bose...a tiny little credit...I was at the Bose store the other day (I go because I want to keep reminding myself marketing >>>>> product

) Anyway..I had a chance to try triport from one of their dedicated unit feeding the darn thing. I was told they have a custom board and amp feeding it and the quiet comfort headphones. Even with probably a top of the line dediciated amp, the phone sound ulterly unlistenable for any critical listening..but I can certainly understand why 99.9% of the people may find this sound signiture "hi-fi" which can be said true of their other products as well. I find if I wasn't even paying attention to the music...like working/listening, I can probably enjoy the triport. If it were $100 less I think its a justified purchase, but you know Bose..that will never happen.

Bose created a situation where they had a "friend" or lots of "friends" within the media industry. I do that with my company

I didn't think they were that bad. Not good, but not bad. Certainly seemed to be in the 497 class (and the Triports are closed)... and less odd looking, as well as more comfortable.

It's funny to see the same well-deserved bashing here as I do on my home theater forums. Bose sucks all around, that's for sure. There's a guy at my work who I regulary give crap to because he has some Bose noise cancelling headphones and I'm set up with some Shure E3cs. He just doesn't want to admit it...

"The power of performance and simplicity, Just one of the many reasons Bose is the most respected name in Sound"

I heard that in an animation from the 3-2-1 System
