Hi guys - basic question - How do I connect my Schiit Modi 2 Uber to JBL LSR305s to get the best sound quality? The 305s take "Balanced inputs" for TRS and XLR I think. My DAC only has 2 RCA outs - "R and L". What is the best way to connect the 2 speakers and to preserve sound quality? I dont mind spending a bit more and get balanced XLR cables. But I am just confused as to what cables to get?!

I hear OFC cables + gold plated cables are good....

Cheers all

The Schiit Modi DAC, like most consumer audio, comes with an un-balanced output (RCA).
But the JBL LSR305 has both balanced and un-balanced input.

Hosa CPR201 cable will connect the Modi to the LSR305.

Schiit does sell DACs (Gungnir) with balanced output, only costs $850.

Thanks @PurpleAngel ! (again  ... I didnt realise the 305s also had unbalanced inputs. Would it be the same jacks (XLR, TRS) that have "Balanced input" written at the top? In any case / btw, is XLR any better than TRS or are they really the same in terms of SQ?

btw, these look like these are TS cables rather than TRS -- I might be wrong however I thought "mono" = TS vs. stereo = TRS? so do I need RCA unbalanced to TRS?

Also, is there no point getting "gold" plated cables?

Cheers

Those cables will be fine. Balanced for those is mostly for noise reduction on longer runs and a lot equipment to run around.

You might also need something like a Schiit Sys to control the volume, unless you have other plans.

The JBL's TRS jack (1/4") will accept a balanced TRS plug or un-balanced TS plug.
Guess the XLR plug is more "professional", it's designed so the grounding signal is first connected, guess it protects against shorts(?)
But i would guess the XLR and TRS connection are equal for audio quality and other basic functions(?)

TS is mono and TRS is stereo.
TS is one positive connection and one grounding connection.
TRS and XLR are two positive connections and one grounding connection

You need an RCA to TS mono cable, for your current setup.

Never really cared about using gold connectors.
