This is my first post and I am a super newb but I've read on these forums that the Senn. HD555 are 50 ohm but @ newegg and amazon they show 120 ohm? The Senn website show's them as being 50 ohm? Anybdoy have any rhyme or reason for this? And would somebody need an amp for the 120 ohm pair?
Commense with the flaming

When did you order yours? Because me being a newb, ordered mine today not paying attention. I'm praying I get the 50 ohm because I'd have no idea (or money) on how to buy an amp for headphones.

Yea, generally speaking, the higher the impedance, the harder it is to drive directly from the source. So, if it's 120ohm, an amp would be adviced to bring out its full potential. However, an 50ohm version would also benefit from an amp if it's well matched to one with a good synergy.

So is it possible to drive a 120 ohm pair straight off of a pc sound card? Will it sound like utter ass or just not as good as it could sound.

That depends on soundcard and what opamp its using.

You will get the 50ohms if you buy ina retail store. They sound great from my laptop soundcard and I have tried them on two different amps and my stereo receiver and they sound just A BIT BETTER being the best improvement the soundstage/imaging. the instruments sound much more searated. From the Zen Vision M, the volume is decent but not really powerful, that is why I ordered the Vibes to go with them.

Incase anybody cares. I received my cans today and they were the 50 ohm not the 120. So if you are buying them from newegg.com know that it says 120 but you'll get the 50.
