Hey guys this is a burning question of mine and might possibly be for other head fiers abt the S3's USB audio capability. I know there are posts in other threads abt some dacs that have been confirmed but could they all be compiled here as to make searching for possible options easier as well as which version of the S3 they worked on. Anyone using USB DAC's on their Galaxy S3 post which one, how you got it to work and which variant of the S3 you are using.

edit: just saw Danba's post of an extensive list for the S3

This should be a great thread for us Android lovers out there.

I too have been following those other Android threads because i too am going to get the S3 and then adding the DAC. Currently i am looking for a good sounding DAC for the money (300 max preferabely 150$) if i can get a DAC/AMP that would be the icing on top of the cake. thanks.

Cheers...

so far the ones im interested in are leckerton uha a6 mkii (~$300) and apex glacier (499$) they both have hig end dacs's and from what ive read have good amping ability.the glacier is smaller and outputs 24/96 usb while the mkii outputs 16/48 but has a whole lot of other connections

My Note 2 works well with the iBasso D-Zero.

My question is- the volume on the phone and the D-Zero both function, is there a mode on the phone that disables the volume when using an outboard DAC? I feel like it's compromising the SQ.

What IC cable are you using for this? I too have a Note 2 and D-Zero.

Anyone knows if there is anyway to get ODAC or any other DAC to work with Galaxy S3 with CyanogenMod 10.1?
I was looking on their forums as well as on XDA but couldn't get any answer.

Mar 19, 2013 at 10:31 AM Post #10 of 31
But is there anyway to put it back there? I really don't like stock rom but I am stuck with it because of dac support.
I was thinking that maybe there is some way to copy the driver from stock rom or something...

I see the FiiO E7 is supported but what about the E17? I'd assume it would work but I'm not sure. I'm seriously considering switching from my iPhone to the Galaxy S3 (or S4) due to the ability of being able to use USB DACs.

EDIT: Nevermind. I found my answer. :frowning2:

Fyi I just tested the Galaxy s3 (international) with a Zero Dac (24/192) (dac mentioned elsewhere in this blog).

Works very well simply plug in.  No further config required.

Not sure it had been mentioned previously and this list didnt seem to have this.

Thanks.

Like others, I can confirm that the stock Galaxy S3 will play audio files using the USB Audio Recorder app out the USB connection to a FiiO E17 DAC.  I used a straight micro USB to mini USB cable, not an OTG cable with shorted 4&5 pins.

However, it isn’t a great solution for a general music player.  USB Audio Recorder is not really a full music player, and it plays only 5 file types (OGG, WAV, FLAC, AICC, and one other).  But my music app on my PC (Media Monkey) won’t synch files to the GS3 that it doesn’t think the GS3 will play, which is most or all of those file types.  So I can only synch files that I can’t play!  I tested that it works by transferring a FLAC file with the GS3 as a “Storage Device.”  So, it works but it isn’t a good general music player solution.
