Sorry if this is a dumb question by I was wondering if using the volume control on my computer's music player (I use fubar2000) degrades the audio quality. I use digital coax out from my computer to a dac then to my amp. I have a Darkvoice 3322 and sometimes its annoying to adjust both volume knobs to the perfect level.

Windows XP Audio Playback - Setup Guide - Benchmark

If you scroll down to foobar setup they state that foobar uses very high quality volume control causing no distortion, which has been said from many sources I've come accross in the past, I wouldn't worry about it just keep the main windows volume sliders to max (run->sndvol32 in winxp).

I have same amp as you and can't imagine sitting there adjusting both knobs for different songs lol, I usually leave it at about 9 o'clock for a bit of breathing room for quiet songs. You can also set global hotkeys in foobar for things like volume or song change(I use the arrow keys on kybd), I find even 1 db difference in foobar to get that perfect volume for songs can make a big difference sometimes.

There's always replaygain but that's a failure in my opinion, quiet songs get quieter, certain songs that are just right end up wrong, alters the peaks also changing songs a bit.

As far as I know, you should always keep the volume on your computer up, while using an external pot to adjust the volume otherwise.
