Stockhausen...multichannel audio, surround...when it was barely practical. Kontakte rocks 360 degree spin pans!. Need to hunt down that DVD-A 5.1 version. And Gesang der Jünglinge...wow!

Talk about E-music that absolutely doesn't all sound the same!!

breaking news, an article reveals a guy who thinks it was better before!
also he might come from a different timeline where metronomes never existed.

about the actual subject, any new tool will make a noob use too much of it. this in itself becomes a signature style as all noobs end up with the same sort of wrong result. think HDR in photography, look how extreme the settings are, and statistically you get a very reliable view of how noob the people are at post processing. subtlety is often the mark of those who have mastered a tool. this is true about most things, aside from porn stars and WWE ^_^.
computers offered more creative freedom than any analog tool ever did. so I can't see how it would be the cause of music production sounding the same. IMO it's an age thing. at some point we just stopped being involved with the new stuff the way we did as kids when old stuff and new stuff were all new stuff to us. so of course it all starts to look foreign if we stop following the changes long enough. simple ignorance of what really exists, or lack the experience to notice what's in front of us. I see this like when some Asians living among Asians feel like white people all look the same, and vice versa.
with music the difference is that the groups are sorted by age. at some point we grow old enough to start thinking that it was better before, that new stuff is just noise and that it's all the same. and the less we'll listen to new stuff the more we will be sure that it's all the same. ^_^

Dear god... you mean your taste can get stuck in a music era?!

Seriously though, at what point will people just no longer care about live, analog instruments? It seems like bleak times.

It will make a comeback when people / that generation gets fed up with autotune crap.
