I would like to upgrade my work rig some a bit.
Right now, it is a Dell Optiplex 745 tower.
The onboard sound is a bit better than the old Optiplex 620 I was assigned.

I currently have my Tomahawk amping the KSC-75s, it sounds great, but I figure something else can give me better bang-for-buck. This will permanently sit at work, so it does not have to be portable.

I guess this means either
USB -> DAC/Amp Combo
USB -> DAC -> Amp

I am budgeting $250 tops.
I would consider a DIY setup too.
I am also looking for an excuse to buy one of these too. For only $2.69 each when QTY 50+ purchased - PREMIUM 1.5FT Optical Toslink Cable w/ Metal Fancy Connector | Toslink to Toslink

this suggestion may or may not help...but i would personally sell the tomahawk and get a predator or pico. basically, you then have something as portable as the tomahawk (a little bigger though), which is both a portable usb dac and a headphone amp in one small box (i.e. it can be used as either a dac/amp or standalone amp)

fwiw, i absolutely love my predator, despite all the pico love going around...but then again, i haven't yet heard a pico :-)
