I just got a Marantz sa8001 cd/sacd player and the Marantz PM7001 Integrated amp. I'm leaving the cd player on continuously but I'm powering the amp on and off with each listening session. The amp produces more heat than the cd player so that seems to make sense to me.

The owners manuals don't address the issue of whether it's better to leave the components on all the time or power them on and off with each session.

What do you do/recommend??????

I ALWAYS turn off anything that I am not using at the time.

I don't know of any reason to leave stuff on, if not being used.

Seems it could/would shorten the life of the component, to me, anyway.

I would never leave my SA8001 turned-on for no reason.
I like it too much.

Doesn't the SA8001 actually go to standby mode when you flick the on/off switch? Not that I know, but I just want to know.

Actually the lifetime of electronics components is shortened more by the stress of on/off power cycles than by remaining powered on for extended periods of time. You have to consider the ecological impact of leaving unused appliances on, however
