I recently got a bunch of the comply foam tips after finding their site. The comfort and isolation are exceptional, but the high end is clipped relative to the stock foam or silicone tips.

Looking at the comply tips versus the standard Ety tips, I noticed that the inner plastic canal on the comply tips doesn't extend the full length of the foam, whereas on the etys it does. I'm guessing that the comply tips are expanding in my ears and collapsing the canal towards the tip end.

To test out my theory, I used a razor blade to cut the tip of the comply tips down to the end of the plastic canal.

The circumcision worked wonders, and the tips now sound as bright as the Ety black foam tips. If you're using the complys, and miss the high end of the stock tips, I'd recommend trying this out.

(For the record, I know comply makes shorter tips, but they still have the foam overlap on the end)

i have done this on my comply and didnt notice any different. maybe cuz i usually push the foam onto the tip a bit until i saw the opening and then compress it, leaving the tip visibly open

I would expect that this will reduce the life of the tip as you loose the slick outer coating

Could be, you might also have bigger ear canals than me.

I doubt it would do too much. the coating is still present on the part of the tip that touches your ears.
