Hi Guys, Im wanting a good pair of headphones mainly for rock and indie listening.

I am set on these three headphones only: sr60, sr80 and hd595

I had a listened to some sr60's and hd595's in a noisy hi-fi shop and found it difficult to tell them apart in that environment.

Now, I don't want to spend too much money if I can avoid it but uk prices are sr60's £64, sr80's £78 and HD595 £100. They will be run through my Yamaha AX392 Stereo Amp connected to my pc X-Meridian Sound Card.

I was set on buying the sr80's due to the improved bass over the sr60's but having read these forums everyone just disagrees with each other and now I'm a bit clueless!

Could someone please give me some direct, honest advice about what is best for my set up?

I don't like things sounding too bright and would appreciate some good midrange and bass. I still would like some excitement, detail and airyness however! Not asking for a lot am I !

Find some used DT770's and run far away from this place

Don't rely on the forum to tell you what to do... This is a dark and evil place.

Just buy what you want, lol, I'm sure you'll be happy with any of these headphones. Plus, you can always buy more later

To me the HD595's had a slight veil to them, but still sounded great! For what it's worth, I would pick the SR80's. Over the summer I plan on getting ALOT of new cans, and the SR80 is top of my list.

I'm maybe not very helpful here because I've never owned the SR-60/80 or HD595 but my guess is the Senn would fit here.

( I do own SR-325i & HD 650)

Well; I hate to add to the confusion, but if price is a major concern, perhaps you may like to add another set of phones to the list of contenders.

A phone quite similar to the SR-60 and SR-80, but priced perhaps a bit better is the Alessandro MS-1. It sells for $99US and ships anywhere on the planet for that price. I don't know what your customs may do at the border, but it may still come out less than the SR-80.

You might wish to look at some of the MS-1 threads to see if it may better fit your needs.

I second the ms-1. Mine sound great after they have burned in. Also, with the weak dollar, I think they are a good value for Europeans. Shipping is free, but I'm not sure what customs will charge. They are supposedly an adapted sr-80 or sr-125.

x2. Never buy Grado at list price outside the US. From all reports the Alessandros are closer to an SR-125 than to an SR-80. I would avoid the Senns, especially for the music the OP mentions, except for maybe an HD485.

Basically, I have the same problem. I wanted to buy me some canalphones, but I wasn't sure which one, so I visitied this and a similar german forum, and asked what would be a good headphone for my taste of music. And guess what: Some people recommended me a headphone, while others disagreed and recommended me a different headphone. So now I am confused, too.

Head-fi Grado response is mixed on the 80 because the MS-1 is generally considered better than an 80 and a better deal than a 125. The most commonly recommended models in price order are the MS-1, SR-225, MS-2i, RS-1, and then the old Joe Grados. Personally, I'd take an RS-2 over an RS-1, but I think I'm in the minority.
