In the spirit of random non-audio topics in the general forum, is anyone else "into" comics?

If you were a few years ago and then dropped them because the quality went to hell just before the industry tanked, you're really missing out right now. There's a LOT of good stuff going on even in the mainstream books now.

But I like Hagar the Horrible - because it's so wise, Spawn - because of the style, The Punisher - because when he kicks ass, it stays kicked, The Peanuts - because Snoopy rulez, Trolls de Troy - because they are so human...

And, of course, The Wizard of ID - because it sheds a different light on the Middle Age, as well as Dilbert - because of Dogbert?

And... oh well... no, I'm not into comics, really, I... uhm...

I was once hooked on comics. I won't say how long ago but it has been a while. Superman, Atom, Green Lantern I looked forward to them every month and didn't even spend a dollar. Always saved a dime for a Coke and a nickel for a Snickers.

I gave up on comics when i was 11 or so, the quality became so ****ty and prices just kept going up.

Although, i wouldn't mind finding Batman the Cult (4 part series) again.

Interesting that you bring it up. I lack the qualifications to say that I'm "into" them

, but I did get the chance recently to read two excellent comic books:

* The Watchmen by Alan Moore - examines superheroes "behind the scenes"

* Understanding Comics, by Scott McCloud - a book about the aesthetics of comics created in comic book format

I give both a high recommendation.

im still into comics, although i think its more because i cant say "no" to the local comic store owner, since he's such a nice guy and a family friend as well. He's draining my pockets, since i have a "reserve box" there, that gets something like 6 comics a month reserved for me

My favourite current comic has to be Rising Stars. Truly one of the better comic series released in past years. Its on issue number 17 or something, and has already been confirmed to end at issue 24.

I'm also really liking the dreamwave anime style Transformers right now.

If anyone wants to buy comics from me, plz do! im running out of money

I read Batman, Daredevil, Iron Fist, and Green Arrow. I use to read Superman but the quality has gone way way down after Jeff Loeb took over. Boy is he overrated.

Honestly, I've never really been into comics much (unlike my brother, who has still has several thousand comics of all sorts boxed up somewhere).

That said, the "Sandman" stuff really kick ass. As does Neil Gaiman; if you get a chance, check out his novel, 'American Gods'.

I used to be into comic books, but lost interest after jr. high. I think I began to find some of the plots in the books I was reading too silly and/or repetitive.

I second Shivohum's recommendation for the "Watchmen" miniseries written by Alan Moore. It's sort of about how costumed heros would be like if they existed in the real world, complete with personal problems and mental issues.

Another miniseries I like is "The Dark Knight Returns" written by Frank Miller. It's about how an older Batman decides to put back on the costume after a retirement. It's well written and drawn, and I liked how Superman was portrayed as the goody two-shoes boyscout he is. Both of these series have been republished as graphic novels.

I am a HUGE Superman fan ( old version, from the Golden Age to Crisis). I just picked up the Kingdom Come Trade paper back, it was great!

i used to be really big into comics but i dropped the habbit about 6 years ago because i was in college and had no money (and just lost interest).

i never really got back into it since it seems the quality has really gone downhill in every category for me especially art wise. the whole scene went south when rob liefeld and his army of imitators became popular. i was a big micronauts, greenlantern, and x-men fan when i was kid though.

i've been meaning to pick up the new dark knight returns miniseries but i just haven't gotten around it. are there any new comic series with good new artists+writers that you guys like?
