not sure if i want to sell them, so can i pick up a pair of more comfortable pads to use with them when i'm not using my new 580's? where would i look for these pads?

Unfortunately, stev0, the only pads that apparently will fit the MDR-V700DJ are the original stock pads. You see, nobody is willing to make more comfortable pads that are as large as the V700DJ's original pads that will properly fit that 'phone. And those that do use a proprietary shape that won't properly fit the V700DJ.

So, unfortunately, you're stuck with the original stock pads. And if you have to replace a worn-out or cracked set of pads, Sony USA will charge you a whopping $44.62 plus tax and shipping for the pair of replacement pads (based on the $22.31 for each pad).
