College kid in need of advice

Damn, I wish I would've seen the things about the e500's. I put in an offer for 130 on the atrio m5's and it was accepted really quickly. Oh well, I hope I'll be happy with these although I might have to return these as well for the e500's. Besides, I was able to get an amp (the deal on the Microshar uAMP107B for $56) and an IC with the money I saved. Hope it works out together.

Good luck on your purchase as I'm not familiar with the Atrio M5s. Another deal like the E500 will pop up again. I wish you the best

Wow, great help from everybody. As asked above, I listen to a lot of indie, dance/electronica, hip hop, rap, rock, and folk music. I need a versatile pair of phones for all that. I'm really interested in the atrio m5's now and possibly the super.5 pro's or um1's. I realized that I don't want to go over by budget because I want to get an amp as well now to complement the phones. Thanks again.

Skip the amp and get the E500s. You won't be sorry. The difference between IEMs is huge, but the difference between an amped and unamped IEM (except the Ety ER4S) is small...in some cases unnoticeable. Plus, why carry an amp if you're getting them for portable use? I wasted a lot of time and a bit of money amping my IEMs...definitely not worth the effort -- you won't even hear the improvement when you're on the go, and when I was at home, I had another, more powerful source to use anyway.

Edit: Whoops. You already got the M5s. Haven't heard them, but I hope you enjoy them.

I am not sure and people might have better advice than me but the ER4 may also be a good choice if you happen to also like an ety sound sig which I am sure someone else can describe to you compared to the e2

Sanooj -- a corollary of Head-Fi Upgrade-itis is Head-Fi Buyer's Remorse ... even when remorse is unnecessary. You can always keep an eye (or ear) out for the "next thing," and still like what you have.

You're getting a very good pair of IEMs -- at a very good price. Some day you will want to replace them or (another Head-Fi syndrome) add another model to your collection. For now, get to know what you're getting and enjoy them. (And good luck in school.)

Thanks LaBreaHead, I have an all too addictive personality and after finding this site only a couple of weeks ago I've already spent hundreds of dollars and can tell that this will become another unhealthy (as in costly) but great addiction in my life.

Okay, after this post I'm considering returing my m5's and amp so I can get the E500's. I know this is all buyer's remorse. But the point of having an unamped iem for portability is a strong argument. Any other suggestions regarding this. I know I'm an indecisive pain.
