Are any of you college-aged guys or girls on the facebook? For those who don't know what it is, www.thefacebook.com has become one of the biggest timewasters on campuses across the nation. It's kinda like a huge adress book; you create an account and put up a picture of yourself and add some information about your interests such as music preferences, hobbies, jobs and clubs, favorite movies, etc. Once you've made your account, you start inviting people you know to be your "friends," and you can join virtual groups that express your interests (for example, one of my groups is "people who want to kick physics in the shins"). It's not nearly as clique-ish as it sounds, and it's fun to see how you're connected to other people around campus.
Anyway, now that the explanation is out of the way, I think it'll be interesting to hear different opinions on the site. There's a lot of people who think it's pointless and stupid and refuse to join, but that's kinda the point. The only thing that bothers me is that it's becoming more important than it should be. For example, I'm taking summer classes, and there were incoming freshman on campus for orientation who were taking up library computers so they could register for the site with their newly-aquired GT email addresses. That's getting a little bit ridiculous, especially considering that there's real students on campus who need to get stuff done when they go to the library.
Also, if you're registered on the site, feel free to search for me and add me as your friend. I go to Georgia Tech, and my last name is the part of my user name here starting with the G. Send me a PM or something though so I know which of you it is
. I'm already friends with D-EJ915 on the site
