As for the veracity of these reviews, you've probably checked out the V700 review further down:
"...but you will be able to hear everything since the mids and highs are still very accurate."

*Cough*

Presumably the Cnet staff think that Grain is something to do with their breakfast cereals...

For the Sony headphones they said they were good because
...."Loud and bassy"...
Headphones are now being rated by how loud and bassy they are

has anyone here actually heard the 270s?

Oh yes. Our very own joelongwood took a hit for the team by purchasing these a while back. I had the 'privilege'

of hearing them at a meet.

In short, they are really bad. Save your money.

i wonder why akg would release such a bad thing...

The only thing I can reason is:

1. They are for the professional recording market for use in studios.
2. They are primarily for drummers who need isolation, comfort, and the ability to hear themselves and certain other frequencies, but not others.

They are just about the most comfortable headphones I've ever worn. If I had to wear a pair all day in a studio, these would be a good choice - sound quality not withstanding.

/edit: BTW, they do not appear to be as durable as the 240 or 170 series headphones from AKG either *shrug*.
