until I have enough money to buy a really good amp (such as a predator or tomahawk) will this cmoy be worth buying to use for a couple of months?

Mini3 is a diy, but you can find completed ones if you look around for about $100.

I've heard the mini3 and the penguin amp(which supposedly shares a improved-upon.. similar topology as the cmoy), and although I haven't done direct comparisons, I prefer the mini3.
One of my quirks about those cmoys in a mint can is that volume knob is stuck right inbetween the headphone and input jacks, and a pain to access. A mini3, even without an enclosure feels more solidly built, and it has a recharging circuit for use with NiMh batteries.

seriously - the mini3 is a super bargain for $100. it sounds great, is well built and has some nice features. well worth the $ IMHO.
