Been readin a bit about some DIY amps and was thinking about giving a CMOY a shot. Some people report very comparable sound depending on the opamp and configuration. I'm not quite sure on specific configuration though.
Example, anybody compare a cMoy using the AD8397 op amp to a higher end amp like a portaphile, Larocco or Hornet? I saw like one person on eBay, and a couple other various people use it, but ehard nothing else other than the use of that opamp.
If you connect a resistor between each rail and ground, and it's of the same value, you split the voltage going in, so you end up with half of whatever you put in on each side, right? Add an op-amp, you just put that after that "resistive divider" and it then feeds power from its output to power the other op-amp, resulting with a impedance of near zero, right?
So why wouldn't this sound be VERY comparable to a higher end amplifier, as well as being able to adapt to the impedance of the phones being plugged in (like higher end amplifiers)? Use Ceramic to keep it stable throughout to minimize distortion would also benefit the sound correct?
I dunno, all this amplifier talk is making me antsy for the Tampa meet, lol.
