Can anyone tell me what the sonic "signature" of a standard CMoy amp is like? I'm trying to inch my way into hi-fi (well, mid-fi at this point) and unfortunately I don't have the bucks for a Meta42 right now... although Fiddler can build me a helluva Meta for a great price.

I'm trying to decide if I should go for a CMoy since it's less than half the price, just to keep me at bay until I have the $$$ for a Meta. I'm actually completely happy with my Sportapros straight out of my D-EJ955. But would even just a CMoy improve on the sound? I guess I need to know what a Cmoy sounds like (as far as how it affects the overall tone).

can someone help an amp newbie with questions?

thanks!

the sound of the CMoy is completely reliant on which OPA you use, on the whole, Burr-Brown chips are quite dark sounding, while Analog Devices chips have a more pronounced mid and (so some people say) more detail... personally i like the BB best...

however, i would wait until you can raise the funds to get a META, the difference between a CMoy and a META is huge!
