I realize that this has more than likely been posted at least once before, and the replies have been posted at least once before, but I can't seem to dig those up. So, excuse me if I'm reposting the same n00b questions. That being said...

I really want to build a CMoy (Grado SR-60's and underpowered flash MP3 players don't mix), but I can't seem to find a good place to find info on the parts I'd be using and actual process I'd be undertaking. I have a more or less realistic idea of what I want to build, which is a pocketable dual-output CMoy. I'm a complete n00b to all of this, so if someone can refer me to another thread or site I'd be very greatful. Thanks in advance.

Thanks, I figured that'd be easy to answer. Another question... I'm planning on modding the cables on my SR-60, so I figured that I'd throw around the idea of a balanced (if that's even the right term) output amp if it's not too difficult or expensive to build. Any help as far as that goes?

"Dual mono" makes more sense to me.

"Balanced" implies differential signalling. You can feed headphones differential signalling, and it will work, but what you will probably end up doing is single-ended signalling: stable ground with the signal referenced to it.

You'll won't be able to use my board layouts for this. You need to make two mono amps to make use of your dual mono cabling. To get full benefit, you'll need to run each amp from a separate power supply. Given that, I wouldn't do this with a CMoy amp -- the weaknesses of its grounding scheme are well known. At minimum, add an active virtual ground to the circuit if you're going to do this cable mod.

Got my work cut out for me... for another project down the road. Thanks for the info, might drain my wallet a bit more in the coming months. Couldn't hurt to have 2 amps, or 3, or 4...
