hi guys, its my first post here
basically im after a semi decent pair of headphones (around the £50 mark) for my ipod 3g 20gb
i mostly listen to metal but i listen to everything else as well really just not as much.
i have quite a large head too (large being an understatement ;( )
ive got a nice pair of in ear headphones i use for portable but i want a larger pair as im going on holiday soon and i need some headphones for the room because the in ear ones i find arent very comfy after a while.
i dont think ill need the best quality of headphones as its only for my ipod but i want the best sound ill get out of it for 50 quid and some really comfy headphones would be nice too
thanks if anyone can help

That's a tough price range because it can be hard to get good comfort and sound quality at the same time.

I''d probably go for the Allesandro MS-1. They might be a bit overbudget (they're $100 US), but they'd be excellent for rock and pretty decent for everything else. Comfort isn't the greatest, but shouldn't be too much of an issue, especially if you replace the pads.

Oh, bigger budget now? That makes things much easier. MS-1 recommendation still stands, but you may also look into the Sennheiser HD555, or perhaps the AKG K240S and an inexpensive amp.

grado are hand made headphones and arent as mass produces as other brands. you wont find many retail stores selling them. alesandro are just grado with diffenrent drivers i think. you can purchase it from their website.

the comfort level for grado to various users range from very uncomfortable to very comfortable so it'll be hard to figure which will it be until you try it.

Okay, if you have a really big head, Grado/Alessandro headphones might be a bit uncomfortable for you (although you *can* bend the headband to fit your head). I have Sennheiser HD555s and although I do listen to heavy metal, I can't say they're the best cans for metal. Also, do you want closed or open headphones? How much is isolation a factor? open headphones can leak a lot of sound and bother people around you. The Beyerdynamic DT770 (80 ohm version) might be in your price range, and the impedance is low enough that your ipod should be able to handle them fine. These are good especially if you like bass, and based on a quick in-store audition, I think they could be good for metal. Try to find someone in your area who owns some Grados and wear them for a while and see if they're comfortable enough for you, because they're probably your best bet in that case.
