Wondering if a closed version of the HE-6 might in the offing?

I'd be interested!

Totally agreed.  In fact I felt there is a big void in the fullsize headphone market for such a product. It will be well for any company to come up with a very highend closed ortho to compete with the R-10, Ed8 etc.

Oh man, what I wouldn't do for a closed ortho! Seriously. I would sell a kidney for a closed HE-6.

Hehehehe, after that what would you do for a closed LCD2? Your other kidney?

Fostex still makes closed/semi-closed orthos. The Ortho Roundup thread discusses them in great detail.

It doesn't sound like they do their best without modding, though. For some of them, that seems to involve opening the cups.

Alternately, I suppose you could do by wearing a very large hat over your phones.
