i have had my SR-60's for about 2 years, and i love them to death. i am, however, about ready to upgrade to higher end cans. i have been looking at the alessandro MS-1's, and they look like a fantastic deal. however, i have been thinking that i could use this upgrade to go to closed cans, as there are times that i listen in somewhat noisy environments and would like to use regular phones instead of canalphones. i love the grado sound, though i got a chance to hear the beyer DT880's and liked them a lot. however, the sound didn't seem quite "visceral". they seemed to be good for jazz and classical, but i don't think i would like them as much with my ministry and nine inch nails. does anyone have a recommendation? i would prefer not to spend more than $150-200.

Many folks at Head-Fi have posted that if you love the Grado sound and are looking for a closed phone, the SONY CD3000 is for you.

No, the CD3000 outdoes the RS-1 in many respects so it doesn't sound like a Grado

iron's right, the HD25-1 has to be among the most lower-end Grado-like phones. Quite aggressive but still reasonably well balanced.
