Hi,
I've owned a pair of Sennheiser HD280s for around 4 years, and found them fantastic in every way except one: for long term listening, I found them very uncomfortable. Anyway they were recently stolen and I'm looking to buy another closed pair of cans for ~$100. I listen mainly to progressive rock and progressive metal on my computer. As of right now, I'm considering getting the Audio Technica ATH-M50's. Any recommendations would be great.

$100? Comfort? ATH-A700, if the cups fit your ears good.

Denon Ah-D1000/1001, very comfortable. The earcups will cover your ears unless you have very big ears.

I have heard that M50s are tight on the head, which may reduce the comfort in long sessions...Nonetheless mine are in the mail!

For under $100, I can't say that I've heard a better closed can than the JVC RX700s, but they are very low in stock right now.

The Denons would be my second bet - I've heard them and they sound pretty good, go for those.

Coming from AGK K271 I am very happily downgraded to ATH-M50s. They are comfy in a snug way.

another vote for the d1001. there are some on the fs/ft for significantly less than 100. and a simple markL mod and recabling job greatly increases their sq. i just had mine recabled by a fellow member and they sound much better.
