Hi guys, I'm planning on getting a Sound Blaster X7 and looking for headphones to pair with it

  • Budget - $800/£600

  • Source - PS4/PC + Sound Blaster X7

  • Requirements for Isolation - Lots. If sound leak can be minimised, that would be very ideal

  • Preferred Type of Headphone - Closed Full sized / Maybe IEMs?

  • Preferred tonal balance - I'm not too sure here, but I really enjoy my HD598 as a whole, so perhaps something similar?

  • Past headphones - HyperX Cloud -> HyperX Cloud 2 -> Steelseries Siberia 840 -> HD598 (this one is my absolute favourite)
The main use case would be 60-40 listening to music while working/studying and gaming. I'm currently considering these headphones. If anyone is able to give more input on them, that would be great:

Custom Cans DT770 250Ω with cable mod

Beyerdynamic DT1770

Massdrop x Fostex TH-X00 Ebony Headphones

Audioquest Nightowl Carbon

I really like the DT1770 at that price point :)

Are they worth the price increase over the custom DT770?

Interesting to see Tyll's review and the Aeon knocking the Ethers from the WoF. Might be a small issue to get these cans over to the EU, but I'm sure I can find a way. How is the sound leakage?

Completely different drivers so yes they are worth the price increase.

I was going to mention Aeon but they are £200 over budget, they are superb and don't leak any more than the DT1770 really.

That's fair, I did a bit more reading and some reviewers compared the sound to be either on par or better than the T1, good enough in my books. With regards to the Aeon, it is over budget if VAT is included, but there's always friends/family going to and from the US, so I'm sure I can always ask nicely

Noticed you are a retailer, I have a few questions/a request. Am I able to send you a PM or would you prefer I go through the e-mail on the website/contact form

Either is good for me, you can get the Aeons here in the UK for £799
