looking for a good pair of closed cans that can be worn for about 8hrs a day without getting uncomfortable (velvour is prefrble)

isolation and durability are also a must, price range $200 ~ or less... any recommendations? 

music taste: electronica, dub, chill, indie, instrumentals

Audio-Technica m50(x) is always a safe bet (though they do have a fairly strong grip). Shure SRH840, Logitech UE6000 and Sony MDR-1R are also worth considering, if you prefer more linear eq.

I'm in the market for the same thing and I'm currently looking at the beyerdynamic dt 770. Anyone use the dt 770 as an at-work headphone and have thoughts about it?

I'm currently using the ath m50s as my closed at-work cans but they clamp too much to be comfortable for long periods of time, especially with glasses imo.

DT770s I've also been considering these.

The MDR 1R is my top recommendation, since its rediculously comfortable and you change the pads to velour pads. I can't think of any other competitors.

The M50 is really uncomfortable, so is the SRH 840, and UE6000.

Oh wait, forgot about the ATH A900x, K550, and DT770.

They're all comfortable, but I think the A900x sounds the best. These larger cans are also, better sounding overall than the 1r.

After posting here I impulsively ordered the dt 770 on amazon. Got it with a hard case for less than $200. I considered the ATH A900x but the dt 770 is cheaper. Once I receive them I'll use them for a day at work and let you know what I think.

I have a Fiio E12 which drives my T90's well on the go and at work (they're also 250 ohms) so it will hopefully be sufficient. If I could use the T90 at work I would, but it's far too open.

while I'd recommend the yamaha pro 400, I don't know I could wear it that many hours. The senn hd280 seems like it would work for hours on end without a problem and the sound was quite good.

People complain about the HD280's comfort all…the…time.

Just got the dt 770 in last night. I loved the sound (definitely warmer and bassier than my T90 but still very detailed and engaging) but there were two problems. Firstly, the left cup was actually busted. There was a very audible buzzing with bass. Secondly, these cans leak like CRAZY at even low volumes. Definitely not suited for studying in the library. They might be suitable for a louder work environment, though.
