Hi all, I've been lurking at these fine forums for somewhat over a year now and lately become more and more addicted to it, and finally decided to post some too :P

Anyway, I'm listening music a lot while exercising and coding and I'm gradually wanting some more quality out of my gear. Atm I'm listening to nano + FiiO + Atrio M5 (Headroom total airhead otw), but the problem is since I bought the Atrios my (radio) Sennheiser HD140 that have served me well for years all of the sudden sounds really poor in comparison. so I'm in lookout for new full sized cans.

But lets cut to the chase, I managed to listen to some nice cans at a local store, and out of those probably liked Denon AH-D5000 and 2000 best, but even the 2000 is bit too pricey for now though probably eventually will get them. Unfortunately they didn't have Beyer DT 770 or Ultrasone hfi-780 which are the 2 that mostly seem to fit the bill (I still have my bass boost on in the Nano).

Now I noticed on local auction site some AKG K240 monitor phones for 50e, but can't find much info on those so does anybody know how those compare to the afore mentioned ones and would they match/surpass the Atrios sound, especially on the bass front? Or would you have other suggestions?

Thanks!

There's also the Denon D1000 (or D1001) if you like the Denon sound.

I have a pair of Sennheiser HD-280 pros around here somewhere. They're pretty good. I see that Amazon is letting them go for about $85 right now. I know I paid more than $125 for mine. They would be a good choice for an early pair of closed cans.

Thanks for answers, I decided to go for the k240 since I'd just like something to keep me going while I save money and scan for suitable upgrades from forums/auctions/newsgroups. But will surely add d1000 to the list and see if I can find some to try.

Sennheisers I'm not so sure of, I tried maybe 3 different models and they sounded bit boring, but maybe it was just my measly FiiO amp and they probably weren't burned in either. I'll try again when I get the airhead.

I have a bad feeling this hobby will end up really expensive..
