Hello,

I wonder why this type of headphones is practically scarce in Europe and USA while seems to be popular in Japan. Most of the higher models are discontinued/unavailable in EU - there are only Koss KSC75 and nothing better.

I guess it's mostly a fashion thing.
Most of them look terribly outdated and are seldom designed tastefully.

My old PMX100 is a neck-band clip-on, which is sinfully unfashionable, (but cool in a sort of kitsch kind of way) but I use it while jogging and it sounds great.

Realistically, even it was designed beautifully, I wouldn't use it anywhere else because of the sound leakage and poor isolation.
I think it's pretty tough to design a closed-back clip on that has enough pressure to form a good seal with superior comfort.

Oh, there are nice and fashionable ones... currently in Asia, thought. I don't think they leak more than koss sporta pro for example. Poor isolation may be a plus as well - personally I like to know what's happening around. So that's not enough to put them away. I wonder about different reasons. Maybe they just weren't popular before so aren't popular right now. Also, there's a theory that IEMs of similar price sounds better than clip-on's. Why it wouldn't be problem in Asia, thought?!

I imagine the Yuin ear clips wouldn't be too difficult to find. Other than those, the good ones are hard to find and typically overpriced as collectors items. For another option, iGrado might still be available, but that's a neckband ear clip design. The Audio Technica earclips that I know are good are all discontinued sadly.

The earphone and headphone makers seem to be obsessed with making products that isolate. While I like using isolating earphones when it is safe to use them, it is not safe to use them when walking through traffic. There are some Audio Technica clip on headphones still available on Amazon and Ebay. Search for Audio Technica clip on headphone.

I'm pretty sure it's dangerous to walk through traffic no matter what's on your head.

It appears true - in EU and USA. Why there are such earphones/headphones in Asia and not here?

Perhaps since Asians in general seem to have more common sense than most Americans, and realize that using isolating headphones or isolating earphones when it is not safe to do so can be extremely dangerous.
