So I have a few CDs that I ripped to ALAC using a crappy USB DVD drive and when I listen to them they have super audible clicks in them. Is this from scratches in the CDs, the crappy DVD drive, or something else?

Assuming the clicks are always in the same spot, regardless of player, those are errors, or faults, which are present when ripping. Most software has a built-in system for error correction. iTunes's system is in Edit>Preferences>General>Import Settings...>"Use error correction when reading audio CDs". I'm not sure which program you used, but you can find ways of fixing it (it'll require re-ripping your songs) by searching "{ripping software} error prevention", then re-ripping your songs. Unfortunately, these things just happen regardless of equipment.

Could be errors in ripping. Not all ripping softwares are perfect. Exact Audio Copy is a highly recommended software for those who prefer error free rips. Not that it would be 100% error free, but comes close. But its downside is, it is relatively slow.

Ah, thanks. I did use iTunes and did not know about that setting. I assumed that that was because of the disk, but if re-ripping would benefit me then I will try that.

Thanks for the suggestion. I used iTunes because I already have it, but if the clicks become a problem I'll get another program. I dont like putting things on my computer.
