Hi all,

Wondering if anyone here is knowledgeable enough to help me.

I need to clean the innards of a rare vintage Yamaha orthodynamic driver. Dismantling is difficult and requires extreme procedures.

I also have a small ultrasonic cleaner (the typical home ones):

My question is:
  • Will immersing and cleaning the whole Yamaha ortho driver in the ultrasonic cleaner induce polarity issues within the magnet? (the magnet has a very specific N-S polarisation)

I see anecdotaly online that people who ultrasonically clean their watches, end up with magnetized watches....

I think the idea is that some ultrasonic cleaners will magnetize stuff because there are permanent magnets inside the machine that will magnetize the metal of the watch.

A permanent magnet should have very little affect on other permanent magnets in a case like this.

Regardless, do NOT clean your drivers in an ultrasonic bath. Here is a video explaining why.
