I'm thinking...Apocalyptica would be an example of Classical/Metal, while Vanessa Mae and Maksim would be examples of Classical/Rock. Are there any others worth mentioning? There seems to be fewer examples of Classical/Metal, though the "symphonic metal" genre seems to be what I'm looking for. I'm not sure. Is that like when Metallica employed an orchestra for Unforgiven? That's cool. Anyway: Go!

Try Virgin Black - Requiem Mezzo Forte

To me, it is my favorite album with metal/classical.

I also second Elend. It is very hard music to get into, but it is what you could imagine classical played like metal would sound like: deeply disturbing and emotional.

I put Therion at the top of the symphonic metal list. Their most recent studio album, Gothic Kabballah, has less symphonic content than their earlier releases, but I think it's their best album. Lemuria/Sirius B and Secret of the Runes are awesome symphonic/chorale metal albums.

I also second Haggard and Blind Guardian. You might enjoy Rhapsody and Epica as well.
