Classic Headphile headphones?

I'm pretty curious knowing what were the most expensive headphones back in the day (1970's 80's) ? anyone know? share away

The Orpheus line was introduced in 1992.

My guess would be some old Stax models though. They have models going back to 1960. Philip K Dick even mentions using them in VALIS, and that's set in the late 70s to early 80s.

Beyerdynamic's DT49 has also been around for a long while.

for me, 1992 IS back in the day. but i guess it is not for the OP.

Wild guess, but perhaps the Sony MDR-R10?
Other alternatives may be the Stax SR-Lambda Signature and Stax SR-Sigma Pro...

i guess the sr-sigma was the most expensive headphones during the seventies, followed by the likes of sr-lambda, jecklin float and fostex t-50 (probably forgot something obvious
