Is there a circumaural set that sounds relatively similar to the ER-4P? The HD650 has too much bass and the K701 has too much treble. I've tried the DT880's in the past and couldn't stand the treble spike on those, either. Any recommendations?

The K701 is already the closest you can get to the ER4p. If it's treble the ER4p has lots of treble too, if you feel that the K701 has too much treble you can always get a dark source to roll off some of those treble.

I guess I feel the K701 has a "sharper" or "thinner" treble than the ER-4P, but i wouldn't even know how to attempt a volume-matched comparison.

I didn't think the K701's were anywhere near as good as my ER6i's

The ER6i's are involving and fun. K701's are boring and dull.

DT880 is the closest I've seen in getting the amount of detail as ety's.

Some of my observations:

The K701 has a very pronounced midrange compared to the ER-4P, which I've come to like a lot for some music. There is an annoying glare or peakiness in the lower treble of the K701s which I think overshadows the rest of the treble response, making the ER-4Ps sound more extended, detailed, airy in the highs. And I actually find the ER-4P to have a bit more impactful bass probably because the K701 mids overpower its bass.

Hoping for a source/amp upgrade soon.

As for your question... no idea, but I'm interested in hearing about the SA5000.

I Think you wont get a closer match than the 880.
I own and love both and they sound very similar indeed.
The 880 takes it for all round sonic ear nirvana with a super dryness and outstanding detail to it but the 4p is certainly the closest i've heard.

I can undeniably say that the Sony CD3000 is a proper replacement for the ER4S/P with a tad bit more bass impact and better detail.
