HOLY CRAP, just got Chuck Mangione - "Children of Sanchez" for $1 at Half Price Books... OH MAN this album is awesome! It's a 2 LP set (4 sides), and it ranges from Maynard Ferguson "Conquistador"-esque instrumental pieces all the way to "lullaby"-esque slow, quiet, dreamy vocal songs. Most of it sounds amazing sound-quality-wise... I was totally shocked from the beginning. The slow, quiet songs are just oozing with realism, IMO.

It's sort of a concept album.. It's music composed by Chuck from the movie "Children of Sanchez", but it's an amazing album on its own. I HIGHLY recommend this album if you ever find it for a decent price.

This is printed on the back:
Quote:

"Children Of Sanchez" is not a typical soundtrack album, but my personal selection from the 23 & 1/2 hours of music that I composed and recorded for the Hall Bartlett motion picture based on the Oscar Lewis biography, "The Children of Sanchez."
Writing and recording this music was one of the most intense and emotional experiences of my life. I consider it to be some of the strongest music that's ever come from within me and I'm grateful the music is preserved in this album so that I might share it with you.

Anybody else have this or have listened to this?

We played the main theme in High School jazz band. I've been a fan of his FEELS SO GOOD album forever, it was one of the first cds I bought (after listening to the vinyl version on my Aunt's "hi fi" system). I know it's cheesy and the song "Feels so good" is one of the most muzak-ish songs ever, but for some reason, I really have this strange relationship with the album. There's a lot of really quality playing on there.. and there's a definate nostalgia angle to it. A "guilty" favorite? Not at all. A definite favorite.

I'm sorry but when I hear the name Chuck Mangione I say it over and over in my head like Hank Hill from "King of the Hill". Chuck was in a couple episodes I think and the way Hank says his name is hilarious.

I've actually never listened to his music before. I always thought of it as kind of sterile white-guy jazz. I'll see if I can find this album in my record hunts.

I have this album as a double CD and it's really wonderful, especially the Children of Sanchez overture which is a blast to listen to. In the past my sister had it on a cassette and I often "borrowed" it from her which usually resulted in an argument ;-) I just love it and I am sure that it sounds great on vinyl which is something that I would like to try in the near future. Gooood Music
