I have listened to both the setups you mentioned. The d10>009 I listened at an event. Though I was surprised by how competent d10 is to drive 009, I felt it fell short of hugo2>utopia. The latter has a more even soundstage and coherent imaging. D10>009 has a collapsed and weird shaped soundstage by comparison I felt. The resolution & clarity of d10>009 is pretty good though and may be real close to hugo2>utopia (within 5%). The latter takes it on tonality & dynamics though.
Yes, I think your comments, particularly about soundstage, are spot on.

Hugo 2 has so much more low level information which makes the experience much more life like. I compared optical and usb with three ferrite chokes. Optical seemed to have a bit more upfront vocals with a bit narrow stage. Usb with three ferrites had vocals a bit distant and more sound stage width. Usb with ferrite seemed to have blacker background but three ferrites, I thought made music too polite some how, so removed one ferrite which balanced the things. My question to rob how come optical conversion is not affected from the emi rfi before the pulse converted to optical inside the transport ? Though optical will not be affected by emi efi once converted to optical but will not emi RFI introduce disturbance to electrical pulse which may result into jitter ?

Now that my scaler is arriving later today it's time to start thinking about adding my system chain in the little mini characters at the bottom of my page so everyone can see what i'm made of....:soon:.
