The Hugo 2 and Kef M500 have excellent synergy! Hugo 2 to the Stax SRM1 MK2 amp and Stax Sigma is also a stunning combination as well. Both phones have a slight tilt to warmth(the SRM1 MK2 is warm energizer).

Just when I thought it couldn't impress more I plug in my power amp directly to the hugo and EUREKA! This is bypassing the Schiit Freya btw -- I wonder if I could split that rca signal to get audio into my sub..

earlier I used RCA splitter for feeding power amp and sub both now I am using RCA to 3.5mm stereo adapters into headphone out of Hugo 2 for feeding power amp and RCA out of Hugo 2 for sub.

Are those two outputs the same signal or do the headphone out have added magic?

feeding power amp directly by Hugo is the most straightforward, transparent and minimalistic way of playing music. it saves on number of interconnect and avoids an extra active component . I even use mojo to feed power amp directly.

all the output of Hugo share same sound.

Well, that's direct and, I believe, true. I'm actually surprised you haven't weighed in on the great ferrite discussion, as, if I recall, it was you who got me to throwing a couple of ferrites on my USB cable. Thoughts?

For solid state amps I say yes to this and I do this direct into my Pass Labs power amps but having owned and tried with Mojo, Hugo and Dave direct into tube power amps I have never been able to get them to sound very good without a pre amp.

Anyone that buys a Chord Hugo 2 just plug it in and enjoy, desktop or otherwise just enjoy the music

Any issues with plugging both RCA outs and headphone simultaneously? 1 out ot a power amp and another out to a sub or another power amp? Does this fool around with the impedance load on the Hugo2 and more importantly can it be adverse to sound quality or even more worse damage the Hugo2?

    1v RMS against 3v RMS is -9.54 dB, so 9 (1.06v) or 10 clicks (0.95v) down...

Yes it's me! Any active electronics will add more RF noise; more PSU, more RF ground loops, more active electronics each adding to RF noise levels. For sources, keep it simple, and if possible use battery operation. Also the warmer, darker and smoother the sound, the better the source is...

The semiconductors inside Hugo 2 are rated at a min of 150 deg C; nothing gets anywhere near that, as thermal cut-off is at 60 to protect the batteries. And from a reliability POV, it is thermal cycles (on-off heat changes) that damage semiconductors, not keeping things warm. My power amp has been on for 26 years and is still perfect (it even survived a complete drenching from a thunder storm) and I guess the OP transistors die temp is greater than 70 deg C; if I had turned it on/off all the time I doubt it would be still working.... Hugo 2 is 2.25W whilst not charging; I guess in standby mode and trickle charging it will be about 3W total.

@UELong, I tried various combinations of numbers and locations of ferrites on usb cables and found that one or two ferrite at each end are enough. I use two at dac end and one at source end. beyond that there is no advantage.

I got Hugo 2 few days back which feeds benchmark ahb2 directly in low gain mode which in turn feeds to kef r300 . I also use monitor audio rs12w sealed sub from Hugo 2 directly. and I would say the system can beat many much more expensive systems for transparency, accuracy, realism and musicality mainly due to Hugo 2. hugo 2 may be the audiophile invention of the century along with mojo because it has allowed the sound quality to reach to more people which was earlier possible to only few who could afford those many k$ DACs.

Can one extrapolate these comments to apply to Blu2 and Dave? My inclination has always been to leave low powered items on 24/7 to avoid on/off cycles and so this is what I do with Blu2 Dave. Likewise I have an amplifier that had been on for 20 years and only turned off once when we moved house. I replaced the power supply caps 1 year ago at cost of £10 and used higher temp rated ones this time so they should be good for 30+ years now.
