Of course it is possible, I have a Pixel and I can connect to the data network with the wifi connected to the Poly.

To do this, however, the data network must initially be deactivated during the wifi connection to the Poly hotspot, after the connection has been established, it is possible to reactivate the phone data network and take advantage of the data connection while you are connected to the Poly.
Thanks I will try get this working once my poly arrives then. Do you then control the SD card music playback via bubbleupnp?

I use my Poly exclusively in hotspot mode my music is all contained in the micro SD which I control via MPD applications (MAFA or M.A.L.P) I don't use streaming services, in this I have no problem using the data network whilst connected in Wifi to the Poly (as long as I switch off the data network for a moment before connecting the phone to the Poly, and then switch it back on again)

I don't use BubbleUPnP although I have tried it in the past but didn't like it, but I can reinstall it and do the test for you to see if I can use the data network and control the Poly with BubbleUPnP.

Describe your exact requirement so that I can replicate it

If what you are saying is how you operate it, I plan on doing exactly the same thing and copying that.

I mentioned bubbleupnp as that was the only app I was aware of for this kind of control but I will look into the ones you mentioned.

My main question was if I can still have cellular data while maintaining wifi to poly which you have said is possible.

The next question I would have then is knowing that you have to create playlists for the Poly, using Chord's quickplay option you can't select individual tracks unless you create individual playlist/folders per track.
However, is it possible to browse and select tracks via these MPD programs?

Essentially my endgoal is to use the poly SD card while on the go without burning cellular data AND phone battery from having to operate it. I know Bluetooth can do this but can't select tracks/chord interface sucks so...

Ah good, be aware however that BubbleUPnP allows both control of the Micro SD and the possibility of being able to transmit your phone's music to the Poly via DLNA protocol, whereas MPD apps such as those mentioned above, only allow control of the Micro SD via MPD protocol, it cannot transmit your phone's music to the Poly.

For me, the MPD is just fine because I have all the music purchased and stored in the Micro SD with the advantage of the MPD that it allows the music to be played in gapless, whereas the DLNA protocol is slow and with gaps between tracks.

The next question I would have then is knowing that you have to create playlists for the Poly, using Chord's quickplay option you can't select individual tracks unless you create individual playlist/folders per track.

That's right, the GoFigure app is limited for this, so it does not directly see the files stored in the Micro SD but only the Playlists if created.

You can create them from the app mentioned before (I recommend MAFA, is chargeable but worth buying because M.A.L.P. is limited in both graphics and functions) and GoFigure will immediately display the created playlist after a short search. You will then be able to listen to the music directly from GoFigure without the need to connect your phone to the Poly but just have Bluetooth active, in Bluetooth in this case it will only act as a controller and will not transmit any music.

Remember though that from GoFigure you don't have much control but it is limited only to start, pause, stop, back, forward, shuffle and repeat a Playlist... and nothing else, there is no navigator to forward or backward the song, for full control I recommend a good MPD app, although sometimes the control function from GoFigure can be handy and quick.

However, is it possible to browse and select tracks via these MPD programs?

Obviously yes, with an MPD app you have full control and visualisation of all metadata including cover artworks.

Essentially my endgoal is to use the poly SD card while on the go without burning cellular data AND phone battery from having to operate it. I know Bluetooth can do this but can't select tracks/chord interface sucks so...

As already mentioned GoFigure can only display Playlists.

From what I read your needs are identical to mine, I use my Mojo 2 Poly exclusively outside the home in the described mode and have no problems.

Initially though I went crazy trying to figure out how to use the data network without the phone losing its connection to the Poly, and after days and days of trying I found out that the data network has to be deactivated at first while connected to the Poly and then reactivated, this way the phone continues to be connected to the Poly via Wifi, and you can use the data network to go on the internet.

Thanks for the detailed write up. This looks perfect. Essentially, buy MAFA and create playlists using it, while also having a full interface and control over the metadata so it basically just becomes a proper music player for the Poly/SD card rather than theimited gofigure play controls.

Exactly, the only flaw is that the version of the MPD software in the Poly is not the most recent, so it will not display the cover artworks embedded in the metadata of the files but only those of the folders, so you will need to insert the album cover in the folder containing the files, this is not a problem if the folder refers to an album or EP, as all tracks have the same cover artwork, but in folders where you insert singles for example, or a folder where you want to insert all songs of the same genre, each of them will have its own embedded cover artwork but the MPD version of Poly will not allow you to display them.

In this case I insert a cover that refers to the artist (in the case of singles) or a cover that refers to the genre.

However, if you are not a stickler like me for perfect metadata, this might not be a problem for you.

I'm not particularly fussed about the metadata. In my case I don't even sort my playlists normally and have an entire library of 900+ on permanent shuffle. Only rarely do I go select individual tracks or do any of that so if anything I wouldn't even mind using gofigure play only. Having the selection is to make up that last 80% so I am more than happy enough for this!

My poly has arrived and I have gotten it all setup and working. I am trying to add tracks to create an MPD playlist, but it seems I can only select individual tracks or the folder which the tracks are store in to add to the list. However, if I add the whole folder to create a playlist, when operating via GoFigure, it returns "Playlist Malformed". Is there a way to bulk add tracks to a playlist without throwing the entire folder in?

EDIT : Now it's somehow working... Poly works in mysterious ways as they say!

What are you using to create Playlists?

A question to the ones of you, who have already used their Mojo2 90 day free trial for qobuz _and_ their Poly 90 day free trial for qobuz. I intend to use the same email address as I used for the Mojo2 free voucher also for the with-poly-provided free trial. Is that possible or do I "need" a new email-address/registration?

Am I understanding this correctly? You have used the free Mojo2 and Poly trials, and are now trying to avoid paying for future Qobuz use?

Partly. To clarify: I just want to use up my remaining two days m2-free trial-append a my poly packaging still consisting 90 day free trial and after that 90-day-period stay with qobuz (paying till I die).
Priority number one is not throwing away that 90-day-poly-present and priority number two is preserving all my favorites without changing registration/Email address. So saving money without changing registration/Email address. Is that possible? Thanks!
