First of all, since I am new here I'd like to say hello to all of you!

And now to business:

I got quite a limited budget - around $150 tops but since I'm gonna buy from ebay I get a bit wider range to choose from. I have done little research and selected some models: Audio Technica AD700/A700 (around $140), AKG K240/271(might fit into budget if I get lucky), Sennheiser HD280 Pro ($110) and if all else fails then a cheap solution which I've heard and I know I like - the Sennheiser HD212 Pro ($60-70). Ofcourse I am open to other suggestions.

Anyways I'm gonna use them without amp and mostly for iPod but prolly also for PC (movies, music and gaming). I don't mind big headphones while i'm outside (who cares if some people stare

) and I care more for the lower end of sound spectrum a.k.a bass. More bass the better but I don't want over-all sound quality to lack because of it. I listen to practically everything from hip-hop to d'n'b and classic rock.

So if you can, then please make my life easier and help me choose.

search the threads for the headphone buyers guide, very informative.
you say $150 now....muwahaha! sorry about your wallet.

ATH 700's are open, so probably not what you would like for going outside, people will not only stare at the giant purple pillows on your head, but the sound coming from them as well. Also, they are not the most renowned for bass levels....

I can only speak to those as I have owned them, and Eugene is right, much cheaper and safer to get from Amazon.

anyway read the buyer's guide, maybe check out the for sale forum for some higher end closed cans for the same price...but most of all, enjoy the ride!

The K271 might lack bass for you too.

The A700 has a nice amount of bass though, and when blu tack modded properly, they sound pretty balanced.

What is the blu tack mod? Is it only for the A700 or the AD700?

I'm pretty sure that the blu tack mod is only for closed phones.

OK thanks for all the answers.

But since I live in a nice small European country where all electronic equipment prices are atleast half more and usually double the price that's in the US, I don't have much use of pricegrabber or other similar sites. Like HD280 costs $83 in Amazon but here they sell it in 2 places atm and the price is, believe it or not - $260. So buying from here is quite out of the question and Amazon is out too because they don't ship electronic eq. here and that leaves ebay pretty much my final and only option. And $150 is the maximum amount I can afford to pay. I know it's not much but maybe I get something atleast half decent for that :p

But I'll check into this forum's selling section, maybe some would be willing to ship internationally...

Oh and last night I read somewhere that Beyerdynamic's DT770 were quite good too. Your thought's about those cans ?

AD700s are by far the best sounding cans overall in your price range. Bass, however, is not their strong suit. If you like your bass really loud and poweful, go with DT770 Pro/80s instead (plus they are closed, which is better for use in public.)

Didn't one member put some blu tack in his HD555? But that was for an SFI project, so I guess that doesn't really count.

Plus, it would be pretty hard to cover all the spaces without covering the holes of the AD700.

OK it seems like the M50 has a similar construction to ATH-PRO700 and I've read that it breaks quite easily. Is that true or not ?

BTW just saw today that one guy sells his Grado SR80 (not SR80i) for $80. I know that they ain't booming bass but from what I've read it's said that it should be a solid set of cans. What do you think about those ?

And let's say I drop the need for excessive bass and go for all around sound quality, then what headphones would be recommended for similar price (150ish)?
