You are right. Status Audio CB-1 is basically Somic MM163.

That description confuses me. Are there drivers inside or is this meant for a DIY project? The way I read it you would install 40 or 50mm drivers.

Correct. They are bare donor shells. You add your own drivers.

That seller has had those donor shells for years now.

orderd some takstar pr82's, but i found out unfortunally its the first version, with the 2.2 meter cable and less sound quality?
i only found out there was a v1 and v2 after it already shipped, will it still be a good headphone for 60 usd in today's standards, despite being the first version?

After reading all the pages i decided to also order some ISK 9000, as i see a lot of people praise them valuewise.

v1 comes with a 2.2m cable and the suitcase is in a white carton box
v2 comes with a 1.6m cable and the suitcase is in a black carton box

when watching the frequenzie graphs the v2 has less harsh high's, there is a topic on this forum about this subject the v1 vs the v2.

As far as the sound signature goes the newer version has a little tamed highs compared to the older one, my pair is from the older batch and its upper mids and treble can sound a bit metallic/piercing/harsh/whatever you want to call it at times. Not a dealbreaker for me but it still can be annoying.

It confused me as well. I thought it was a full pair of headphones. Luckily, they sell tons of 50mm drivers.

How long the cable is? That is probably the easiest way to verify it.

It's 2mt so it seems they are the v1.. bad side of this is that even if i can send them back on amazon, I can't find there any seller with v2 ..

Did you receive the v1 yet? If not, maybe wait before ordering the v2.
They are not radically different, the main difference being more linear FR in v2 (less treble):

For tracks there were flawlessly performed, recorded and mastered - v1 is preferable.
For the other 99.9% tracks - v2 will be better.

Most importantly - both versions are extremely sensitive to the DAC/amp used, won't sound nearly as good without a high quality (but not necessarily expensive) chain.
