Well, if you don't mind buying used, wait for one to show up in the For Sale/Trade Forum (or post a WTB if you're impatient).
If you have a little more to spend, or would just prefer to buy new, B&H is selling them for US $225.95 (plus ~$10 shipping). Link

Support a sponsor, get Headroom to match the B&H price. I think they will send it out for $240 shipped
(note: their price matching can't be combined with the HeadFi contributor discount).

I have the DT880, but I've always been interested in when other Head-Fi'ers sell theirs. Senns appear regularly, but DT880s are a relative rarity.

Part of the reason is that Senn is such a huge headphone name, and they sell lots of units. Another is obvious: the DT880 has a lovely sound that can even makes crappy recordings sound good. It's likely to get snapped up by the time you see it on the sell listings.

Find a good price on a new one -- preferably one that comes in the famed aluminum box. Get the straight cable.

Is there a straight wire and coiled wire version? I didn't know that. Looking at B&H's and Headroom's website, I don't see an option that let's you choose which version you can order.

Well, headroom sells the straight version, and IME, the coiled cable sucks.

AFAIK, the older pairs have the coiled one and newer (like within 1 year) have the straight one. I'm not talking about the recently announced buyer configurable model but the older "new" version. Confusing?

I recently purchased a pair of DT880s from Headroom. Like others here I did some searching on the Net and found that B&H had the lowest price for the phones at $226 without including the shipping costs. Headroom did a price match for me at $244 with shipping included to the Phila., PA area which was a bit more than B&H's price plus shipping from New York. Headroom's sponsorship of Head-Fi and their 30-day return policy sealed the deal and I made the purchase from Headroom.
