I was looking over my stuff today, and realized that I had perhaps the cheapest, highest-quality rig anywhere (apart from DIY?).

1 pair Altec-Lansing im716s, $20, from newegg.com
1 im716 mod (47ohm), $20. (Thanks Germania)
1 FiiO amp, $8.50
1 Sansa Clip, 1 GB, $8 (after $25 Amazon coupon, plus free shipping as Amazon Prime customer).

Total system: $56.50! There might be cheaper, but not with this SQ. Listening to it right now (Cake, Never There), and wow is all I can say.

Curious to see if anyone else has this type of setup. In this case, not sorry for my wallet.

Oh, and the amp really sound nice with the Zune and the 716s, but as you know, they are thin bass-wise, like the Etys. No need for the amp with the Zune and the Sleeks or other bassier IEMs.

I got to tell you, I am amazed at the SQ from this set-up. I won't give up the Sleeks for the 716s, since the former don't really need an amp (the 716s do to my ears, especially a warm one like the FiiO). But the sound is very sweet, and a little velcro for the amp/Clip, and it really is portable.

I did leave out the Shure olives I am using with the 716s, so that adds another $4 to the TCO.

I was going to get something similar a while ago, but figured not to (stuff is cheaper to get down here anyway - total cost would end up at around $150 for that).

EDIT: Oops I mean more expensive.

The real key in my case is the $40 modded 716s. If I were a DIYer, I could have chopped $20 from the total cost. Down to $40, unreal. But no complaints, cause Germania did an awesome mod, very high quality.
