I have a 3G iPod with dock, and I want to make a line out dock for my cmoy. Looking at commercial prices though, they seem a bit high. Considering you can get really cheap iPod dock connector to 3.5mm jack connectors on eBay for a few pounds, I was wondering what justifies the difference in price?

Sure, the eBay efforts are very cheaply made, but many look like they have clip-together dock connectors so it should be easy enough to disassemble them and solder on some better wire/connectors. The dock connector itself is probably cheap, but I just can't imagine it's that bad - especially compared to using the headphone jack.

Has a range of cheap LOD>3.5mm and also all the bits to make your own.

Thanks for that. All my searches only came up with expensive ones.

I'd still like to know why some people charge £50 for their LOD cables though. Seriously - why would you spend that much money on one? I can understand if you are gullible and want to buy expensive cables for your hifi system, but for a portable iPod? Where you will probably use earbuds or IEMs? With lots of outside noise? Am I missing something?
